There’s big and then there’s award-winning big, which ends up being the case of this project from Elite Audio Video–now Elite Audio Video & Lighting (Elite AVL). Dubbed “One Big Makeover,” this installation tackles every square inch of the home in one comprehensive home technology retrofit.
Indeed, this project covers just about every category of equipment an integrator can touch, including whole-house control, home theater, voice control, lighting control, LED lighting, high-performance audio, climate control, outdoor AV, and an enterprise-grade network.
“The home was built in 1996 and did not have any pre-existing speaker wiring or Cat 6 wiring anywhere. Being a two-story home there is no way to run wiring on the first story,” explains Justin Dohman, owner of Elite Audio Video.
However, featuring 5.2.4 Dolby Atmos Surround Sound via KEF speakers and a JL Audio sub, a massive 140-inch Screen Innovations projection screen and an Epson LS12000 projector, the media room stands as the centerpiece of home activity.
In it, Elite Audio Video layered six audio zones, Control4 EA5 Controllers and Josh.ai‘s voice-controlled smart-home automation system. The Control4 system’s new OS-3 color wheel enables the LED lighting to be color changed easily, including the exterior LED lighting that changes color and brightness depending on the season.

“We pulled all of the can lights on the first story out and ran wire from one light to the next back to the fireplace where we installed a 14×14 in the cabinet. From there, it all goes upstairs to the attic and back to the new media closet. The installation process took about three weeks of time.”
The technology retrofit also features poolside sound, advanced video surveillance, a tricked out entertainment system for the home gym, a robust home office and even a dedicated gaming pad.
