Bosch is making some big moves in the commercial and resimercial space with a realignment of its building technologies division. The goal, as stated by Bosch is to focus more on its integrator business. To do this, Bosch plans on selling most of its building technologies division’s product businesses. This includes video, access and intrusion and communication business units.
The realignment is expected to impact roughly 4,300 employees across Bosch’s 90 worldwide locations.
The decision follows Bosch Building Technologies’ announcement of its plans to acquire systems integrator Paladin Technologies in July, a rare consolidation in the security industry of an integrator with a manufacturer.
As for the fate of the business units, Bosch is “looking for a buyer who will take on all three business units together with their associates and locations,” the company announcement says.
It should be noted Bosch is not planning to sell its fire alarm systems business and instead plans to merge that with its integrator business “because of its importance for systems integration.”

“To achieve this, we need to consolidate. This is why we will in the future be focusing on systems integration as our core business. We are confident we will be able to find a buyer who will take over all three business units and who will further strengthen the business and give it a secure future.”
In the wake of the realignment, Bosch Building Technologies plans to employ 7,600 people with operations consolidating to 40 locations in eight countries. According to Bosch, the division intends to benefit from increased digitalization as well as increased demand for building technology solutions related to security, energy efficiency, and building automation.
Meanwhile, Thomas Quante, president of Bosch Building Technologies, is quoted as saying that the product business “is excellently positioned for a promising future” for those willing to take the reigns on that area of the business.
