Google is beginning to rollout several new features in public preview in the Google Home app, including expanded support for the first-generation Nest Cam Outdoor, the ability to create custom video clips, and an AI-boosted security feature.
The updates are highlighted by expanded support for the original Nest cam Outdoor. Google will, over the next few weeks, roll out access to the feature for users with the camera. They can transfer the device to the Google Home app and have more help finding footage.
This comes after the company in August launched expanded support for the first-generation Nest Cam Indoor.
Once the Nest Cam Outdoor is transferred into Google Home, users will be able to manage it alongside other devices in the app, along with new features like an updated camera history experience with quick switching between timeline and event list views.
Also rolling out this week to public preview is the ability to create and download custom clips from a camera video history. Users can trim an existing video event clip by picking a start time and selecting the clip length from a set of options. Users with 24/7 continuous video history with a Nest Aware Plus subscription and a compatible Nest Cam or Doorbell can download clips of any length from any part of their video history.

Google is also adding a new AI-based garage door detection feature to Nest Cam, which will alert users if they forgot to close their garage. The company did this by expanding its AI-powered image detection and improving built-in on-device intelligence. Users with a Nest Aware subscription and a Nest Cam (indoor, wired, 2nd gen) or a Nest Cam (battery) when wired for power will have access to this feature.
