Architectural and outdoor audio specialist Sonance commemorated four decades of excellence in the audio and technology industry at CEDIA Expo 2023 in Denver, Sept. 7-9. Celebrating its 40 years in grand style at the event, Sonance and its brands, including James Loudspeaker and IPORT, showcased a whopping 21 products and innovations at this year’s CEDIA Expo.
For integrator attendees, Sonance’s refreshed booth at the Colorado Convention Center featured lots of goodies, building upon the San Clemente, Calif., company’s traditionally appealing blend of solutions and design story. At the top of that list this year was the introduction of Visual Experience Series (VX), including the Sonance VX and James VXQ models.
Among the additions at CEDIA Expo 2023 were the debut of the Sonance Design Gallery App, a preview into some developing resources, and the all-new Sonance Experience, a showcase that the company shared every 10 minutes.
In addition to the nearly two dozen new product highlights, Sonance held a 40th-anniversary cocktail hour on Thursday of the show, during which it also announced winners of its 2023 Sonance Design Awards and Outdoor Demo Contest.
Sonance Visual Experience Series Combines Sonics & Aesthetics
Much like the Visual Performance Series that will be phased out by the new VX, the Sonance Visual Experience line includes 21 models that range in performance to suit any customer’s performance and budget, the company notes.

From an integrator- and design-friendly perspective, Sonance developed VX with flexible options for installation and trim style.
VX Series models will ship with a new Micro Trim grille as the standard option out of the box, with the option to order a Trimless grille, or even flush-mount the speaker using Sonance’s TRUFIG mounting technology.
“This level of audio engineering and our approach for developing the new VXQ models is unlike anything we have really done before,” Sonance Product Designer Skylar Gray says of the new series.
What’s Inside Sonance & James Visual Experience Series
At the core of the VX models is the Sonance Waveguide Tweeter Design, which the company explains is a specially tuned technology engineered to deliver pristine audio quality with smooth, consistent dispersion and coverage. This driver design ensures sonic clarity to help immerse owners in an elevated distributed audio experience.
At the top of the line’s performance is the James Visual Experience with Quadratech, or VXQ. These models feature the all-new James Quadratech tweeter and cymatic diffuser to deliver superb and consistent sonic results.
“We leveraged iterative machine learning and simulation to optimize the cymatic diffuser for each driver size so that each is delivering smooth dispersion and coverage with consistent tonality for that particular model,” Gray explains.
The Visual Experience products implement the Sonance CDX Crossover as used in the Sonance Invisible Series. All told, the company enthuses that the crossover, Waveguide tweeter design, attention to installation details, and flexible trim options make the Sonance Visual Experience and Visual Experience with Quadratech a comprehensive audio solution for dealers and end users to outfit any project.
