Fresh off the high of a resounding victory in the 2023 CE Pro BEST Awards for Most Promising technology product, DEN announces its SmartStrike is now available for pre-order through the DEN SmartHome website.
Fitting an admittedly unique niche in the growing category of design-oriented/retrofit-friendly technology products, the SmartStrike first broke out onto the scene back in 2021 when it won one of the coveted CTA Mark of Excellence Awards. The strike is designed to be installed directly into a door frame, but what sets it apart from its smart lock and video doorbell cohorts its discreetness in doing so.
The SmartStrike is battery-powered, with users not needing to change the batteries for up to two years, so no wiring is required. Additionally the device itself only acts through the strike, so even door hardware like the door handle is able to stick around once the SmartStrike is installed. Users even have the option once the strike is installed to continue using a physical key through their existing door lock in order to enter their home on a regular basis (though there is the option to use the companion app for entry for those who prefer otherwise).
Unless you’re the one who performed the install, it’s likely you’ll never even notice it’s there.
However, once it’s installed, its the functionality that users get out of the device that really makes it stand out (if the invisible nature of it all wasn’t eye-catching enough). Using the companion iOS or Android app, users can create digital keys for family members, friends, and temporary guests, making it a nifty, discreet little device for rental properties or MDUs.

It’s also Z-Wave enabled, meaning that the SmartStrike is compatible with over 4200 certified, interoperable devices on the Z-Wave network. The company has also stated that future versions of the DEN SmartStrike will add Matter, Zigbee, and Wi-Fi connectivity to provide compatibility amongst a vast array of IoT networking platforms in a move to further future-proof the DEN SmartHome security solution.
Whether or not there are plans to integrate with larger scale smart home systems like a Crestron or Savant is yet to be seen, but given this year marks the company’s entry into the CEDIA channel, it’s safe to say a development like that is still a ways off, if at all.
CEO and Founder, Marijn van der Wal has stated that dealers attending CEDIA Expo 2023 are eligible to receive exclusive pricing on their first unit to test drive it in their homes and businesses to better understand the product and what it brings to the table in the realm of access control.
Dealers who sign on to the Authorized Dealer Program at CEDIA Expo from September 7-9, 2023 will be able to purchase a SmartStrike for their home or showroom at a special rate of $99.
