Set in Indian Wells, California This project, called Serenity, is a modern canvas in upon which the homeowners—an artist and an engineer—could play out their strong vision and sense of creative adventure. It also involved a deep collaboration with the clients, according to Jeff Williams, owner of Jeff Williams Inc., whose integration firm worked on developing the smart home systems for this standout, luxury abode.
The homeowner/artist partnered with architect Marc Whipple and the Whipple Russel Architecture team on every aspect of interior design and personally curated or-codesigned each of the many art pieces found throughout the house. Meanwhile, the businessman/engineer spouse had his own contributions to the design of the house through his extensive collection of cars and fine wines.
Custom DMX Drivers Light the House Like a Work of Art
Along with the residence’s over-the-top AV systems, which features an extensive array of Triad speakers paired with Trinnov audio processing, Jeff Williams implemented an extensive Control4 automation, distributed audio, and panelized lighting system to accommodate the client’s various requests. Samsung LEDs are utilized throughout the home, for which a custom DMX driver for circadian lighting delivers natural light cycles during the day.
“The lighting system consisted of multiple types of lighting (phase and DMX), which had to be controlled as one. The system scale required a new processor to be developed in-house at Control4 and launched for this project because of the grand scale of the control system,” Williams notes. “We designed a system that not only is fluid and easily controlled by the end users but is also an extremely complex system running in the background.”
With these systems in place, the owners have full and convenient command over all systems controlled including fireplaces (interior and exterior), pool and fountain equipment on both levels, alarm system, huge Lutron shade system, rotating wine tower, patio heaters and more.
