Set in the coveted walk-streets of Venice, California, Scandifornian Modern offers a secluded oasis to those seeking relaxed coastal living. Given the location, and the perfect weather that this section of the United States sees year-round, it would be an absolute sin if the home wasn’t built with the outdoor living at the heart of the homeowner experience.
Thankfully, the developers of this luxury manse thought the exact same thing. With Joan Behnke & Associates and Abramson Architects working on the design and architecture and Powerfull Systems for the integration, the team set out to weave together both indoor and outdoor spaces to create a home where residents feel as though they’re never too far away from the invigorating sea breeze.
“This bespoke residence was designed for contemporary coastal living,” says Joan Behnke. “Indoor blends with outdoor, incredible attention was paid to the seemingly minute details that make a home truly special. This is a living celebration of the quintessential Venice lifestyle.”
To this end, the design of the Scandifornian Modern takes a unique approach, adopting Japanese and Scandinavian minimalist stylings (also referred to as Japandi) for clean, uncluttered visuals, and blending it with California’s signature coastal design (hence the name “Scandifornian”). Combine this unique aesthetic with industry-leading outdoor technology, and you have a project where the exterior entertainment and lounge spaces become the most frequented areas of the home.
Starting on the ground level, an open concept floor plan sees Scandifornian Modern flow outward towards the main backyard deck. The floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors extends the living space as congruent wood flooring, moving from traditional hardwood to outdoor-rated Arbor Wood panels, creates a uniform progression towards the pool/jacuzzi lounge area.

A wall-mounted weatherproof Séura Shade Series Outdoor TV and Soundbar provides the entertainment while a sliding pass-through window opens into the main kitchen area for convenient serving of food and beverages to outdoor guests.
Just up the stairs on the rooftop terrace, you’ll then find a Séura Full Sun Series Outdoor TV with a weatherproof Séura Slim Wall Mount that elegantly displays the television close to the wall. You’ll also find some stunning views of the nearby nearby marina, the Los Angeles skyline and Hollywood Hills in the distance.
Much like the patio below, this little outdoor getaway also comes fully equipped with long-term relaxation sessions in mind. The terrace comes equipped with an Infratech heater, Cle Tile flooring, and is pre-plumbed for a barbecue and sink, providing the perfect spot to enjoy the evening and lounge into the night. True to the Californian coastal culture that spawned Scandifornian Modern, it seems the home is designed with more reasons to stay outside than in.
