A big move within the CI industry has just occurred. Emerald Holding, Inc., the parent company of CE Pro and sister publications Commercial Integrator and Security Sales & Integration has just announced the merging of the two latter brands into a single print publication for the integration industry. These changes only affect the print components of the two brands as both properties will maintain separate website, newsletters and brand identities otherwise.
The combined print property — branded Commercial Integrator + Security Sales & Integration — debuts its first combined issue on September 1, and it will be distributed at CEDIA Expo/Commercial Integrator Expo in Denver.
Commercial Integrator is a multi-platform editorial property that helps audiovisual integrators run their businesses better. Security Sales & Integration (SecuritySales.com) is a 44-year-old publication that serves executives, sales and technical professionals who recommend, buy and/or install electronic security equipment.
In recent years, both CI and SSI have extensively covered the convergence of technology trades, as more and more installers and integrators seek to be “a one-stop shop” for commercial clients.
This has inspired AV integration firms to seek to broaden their core competencies to include fire alarm, access control, video surveillance and more; at the same time, large numbers of security integrators are exploring opportunities to bid on and win AV work, including digital signage, conference room setup and more.

Danielle Puceta executive vice president, content and commerce, Emerald, also cites the move as an opportunity to offer a more comprehensive reporting into the evolving technology ecosystem that the two brands’ readers and advertisers occupy.
Dan Ferrisi, group editor, commercial and security, Emerald, echoes this sentiment, underscoring the point that the uniting of these brands in print reflects today’s merged ecosystems of AV and security technology calling the merging of the two brands in print the “lived reality” of their respective audiences.
Industry response to the announcement of Commercial Integrator + Security Sales & Integration has been just as positive, with AV integrators and security professionals alike celebrating increased page counts and expanded circulation.
The inaugural September/October issue is 128 pages, and it contains all the features, columns and departments that readers of CI and SSI have grown to love. Moreover, the combined publication goes to both properties’ audiences, which means advertiser messaging enjoys dramatically increased reach.
