Cox Communities, a division of telecom giant Cox Communications that works on bringing technology to multifamily and single-family communities, is partnering with smart home IoT device manufacturer Level Home to bring the company’s devices to residential communities and apartments.
The partnership comes as supply of newly constructed apartment units is on the rise due to a housing shortage, and most of these new builds feature some kind of smart technology. This puts pressure on existing communities to stay competitive.
Through the partnership, the companies will combine Level’s IoT technology with Cox’s fiber-powered network and 25 years of experience in the multifamily space to give property managers and renters a fully integrated service experience, the company says.
According to Cox and Level Home, the partnership will give property managers, staff and residents several benefits, including a building-wide mesh network powered by Thread, a simple user experience, integrations with property management software and access control solutions, and design and installation services.
The partnership appears to center around the Level M platform, a multifamily and smart building automation platform that features mesh networking, elevated point-to-point connectivity that offers enterprise-grade reliability and performance, according to the company’s website.

For staff, the platform offers an intelligent dashboard of notifications and snapshots designed to help reduce staff overhead, as well as integrations and automations to streamline move-ins and eliminate manual tasks like controlling thermostats and locks in vacant units. Level Home also makes smart locks, but the announcement didn’t include any mention of those devices.
According to Level’s website, the Level M platform’s integrations include Google, Nest, Yale, Alexa, Honeywell and more.
Residents have the same insight into their own space with the ability to control smart home devices, as well as greet guests and buzz them in.
“Collaborating with Cox helps us further our technology leadership position, but also provides the benefit of delivering connectivity from the most trusted broadband provider,” says John Martin, CEO of Level. “The strength of this partnership is the confidence we can provide customers with a quality end-to-end experience.”
In a statement, Vickie Rodgers, vice president of Cox Communities, says the company chose to partner with Level because of their IoT solutions spanning access, control, energy management and operational efficiency.
“As the need for smart automation grows, digital enablement is a necessary solution for owners to manage their properties from anywhere,” Rodgers says. “Cox Communities and Level are already accomplishing these solutions through our partnership.”
